It's the O-line!
It is completely natural to take a step back every week and reevaluate where things stand, and after Ohio State's loss to Purdue on Saturday that way of thinking was magnified that much more. And it is all in regards to Terrelle Pryor.
Coming into Ohio State as perhaps the most highly touted recruit in program history, fans are growing increasingly impatient with the output of Pryor, especially after his 5-turnover game Saturday was one of the major factors in Ohio State's loss.
Funny the way things turn out, especially because the same people who advocated to bench Todd Boeckman are now calling for Pryor's head in favor of Joe Bauserman.
While there were certainly times in which it seemed as if Pryor was being self-destructive to the team in the game against the Boilermakers, relieving Pryor of his duties in the game or future games doesn't seem to me to be the best option.
Let's face it, Bauserman isn't the quarterback of the future in Jim Tressel's eyes, so what good what it do to sit Pryor down this season? IF anything, the two losses give the Buckeyes even more incentive to see what Pryor can do.
It was perhaps the worst game we have seen out of Ohio State in a long time, but one loss should never be enough to question the entire direction of a program. Tressel has been enthusiastic about his young quarterback since day one, so why should htat be any different right now?
We all are hoping to see Pryor turn into some Vince Young-like player, but that simply isn't the case now. Can we sit here and say that it will be for sure be that way one day? No. Can we say it wont? Also no.
The bottom line is Ohio State has too much invested in Pryor at this point to make a change. They are in it for the long haul, good or bad, and that's the way it has to continue to be. Putting Bauserman in solves nothing and he certainy won't be good enough to save the season. So what does Ohio State have to gain by inserting Bauserman in this year? Practically nothing.
